The firm has maintained a specialist Shipping and Transport department since it was founded in 1874.
From its origins in Kingston upon Hull serving the local shipping industry, the department has over the years expanded into a modern commercial shipping practice, which now services clients both in the United Kingdom and worldwide. In addition whilst continuing to be primarily involved in commercial shipping matters the firm has attained international recognition in the Fishing Industry with specialist knowledge of UK, European and International fisheries legislation as well as the specialist fishing vessel insurance market".
The firm deals with a broad range of shipping and transport matters including collisions, salvage, other casualty investigations, shipping personal injury claims, pilotage, towage, harbour law, dry shipping including charterparty and bill of lading disputes, CMR, marine insurance disputes, cargo damage claims, ship build and ship repair disputes, ship build and ship repair contracts, ship sale and purchase and vessel financing as well as all criminal matters relating to the operation of merchant vessels and fishing vessels. An increasing part of the practice has also been in marine environment law.
